Offering lily of the valley dates back to the Renaissance period. While visiting his mother Catherine de Medici, King Charles XIV was offered a sprig of lily of the valley by the knight Louis de Girard de Maisonforte. He, therefore, decides to renew this practice each year by offering some to the ladies of the court.
It is said that the lily of the valley symbolizes the return of happiness. Lily of the valley was not associated with Labor Day until the beginning of the 20th century. Wherever you are, send lily of the valley on May 1 - a kind gift always appreciated!
